We need dedicated volunteers to moderate various forum areas. This is not only needed to keep topic areas on track of the issue involved, but also to prevent abuse between individuals participating within that topic group. Before we give you such control, we would prefer to see a few of your own posts to one or more boards to see how you interact with others participating within that group. Your demeanor will show if you will indeed be a fair moderator.

What is required from a moderator!

You have to have the ability to frequently (meaning more that once a week) visit your given area, read posts and responses to ensure board guidelines are being adhered to. Most areas will have more than one moderator so you will not have to dedicate your life to this task.

Why would I want to be a moderator?

A perfect moderator would be one that has a keen interest in the topic they apply for, keeping in mind you have to treat your role in a non-biased manner. This means you cannot delete messages from the board just because you don't agree with that poster's view. By monitoring your own area of Speakout B.C. your views might actually be changed after reading several postings opposed to your way of thinking. If you wish to oppose a view or comment please do so without using your moderator role in posting.

What kind of power will I have?

You will be given the power to remind a person that posts a subject to stay within the topic, and then to move the posting to the appropriate area if it exists. You will have the ability to remove a posting if it contains any hate statements, threats, swearing or defamatory statements. We wish to keep this board free from legal implications and open to all ages so keep that in mind when you are moderating your area. You will also be able to recommend banning certain individuals from gaining access to the board, after review of your concerns from the administrators.

What will I have to learn to do this?

Our software has a great tutorial, and you can get support from us as well. In no time you will be able to help out. Frequent messages sent to all moderators will help keep you up-to- date with happenings as well as shortcuts to help you out along the way.

Will I get paid for this?

Currently we are only looking for volunteers but with the potential growth of this site, paid moderating is a possibility in the future. In the meantime, we hope Moderators will simply find enjoyment overseeing the various views pertaining to their topic of discussion.
